DEPARTMENT 21-A
Homemade Wine

  1. Wine entered for competition in the amateur wine department must be home produced under Regulations of Part 540 of the Code of Federal Regulations.
  2. Only one entry (on bottle) per category.
  3. All wines will be evaluated by knowledgeable judges; therefore, pre-registration is required by July 1.
  4. Judging will be done on color, bouquet, taste, and clarity.
  5. Wine may be from any year's grapes. All bottles must be labeled with the year. The wine will not be returned to the exhibitor, and may not, therefore, be entered in a subsequent year. 
  6. No transportation certificate of Federal Registration is required.
Class 1: White Table Wines - Dry or Semi-sweet, less than 3% sugar
     A. Old Eastern Grape varieties
     B. Hybrid Grape varieties
          1. Seyval
          2. Vidal
          3. Any other
     C. Vinifera Grape varieties
     D. Blended
     E. Other Fruits
Class 2: Red Table Wines - Dry or Semi-sweet, less than 3% sugar
     A. Old Eastern Grape Varieties
     B. Hybrid Grape varieties
     C. Vinifera Grape varieties
     D. Blended
     F. Other Fruits
Class 3: Pink and Rose Wines - Dry or Semi-sweet, less than 3% sugar
     A. Grape
     B. Other Fruits 
Class 4: Sweet Wines - 3% or more sugar
     A. Grape, White
     B. Grape, Red
     C. Other Fruits
     D. Blossom or Honey
Class 5: Sparkling Wines
     A. White
     B. Red
     C. Pink
Class 6: Most Attractive Packaging - Standard wine bottle, label, capsule, etc. 

Section 2: Homemade Beer

General Rules
  1. Open to Pennsylvania residents only.
  2. Brew must be shown in glass bottles: 7-32oz. size with a crown cap.
  3. An exhibitor may enter 3 home-brews but only one per class.
  4. Judging will be based on aroma, appearance, flavor, body, drinkability and overall impressions.
  • Class 1: Ale or lager - light or amber
  • Class 2: Ale or lager - dark
  • Class 3: Specialty brews (fruit, spices)
